Add a Financial Enforcement Action to a Project


To add a financial enforcement action to a project:

  1. In the left navigation menu, click Projects > All Projects.
  2. Click the name of the project to which you'd like to add a financial enforcement action.
  3. Click the Enforcements tab.
  4. Click Add.
  5. In the Manage Enforcement modal that displays, fill out the fields:
    • Under Enforcement Type, select Project to apply an enforcement based on the project as a whole, or Service to apply an enforcement based on the value of a single cloud service.
    • Under Trigger, select a timeframe, which determines the length of time during which the trigger will apply.
      • Monthly: Accrued amount since the first day of the month.
      • Yearly: Accrued amount since the first day of the year. If the project was created this year, it will count from the first day of the month when the project is created.
      • Lifetime: Amount accrued since the first day of the month when the project was created.
      • Current Funding Source: Time until the funds on the current funding source run out.
    • If you selected Enforcement Type: Service, select the Service. If you selected Enforcement Type: Project, you'll see the Spend Option drop-down box. Choose what you'll be measuring:
      • Spend: The dollar amount that has been spent in the selected timeframe.
      • Remaining: The dollar amount that is remaining for the selected timeframe.
      • Spend rate: The percentage of money being spent compared to the planned rate established in the project spend plan.
    • In the Amount drop-down, you can select:
      • Custom Amount: this is the amount you type into the Value field.
      • Last month's spend: this will use the total spend for the previous month instead of the Value field. (This will only display when there is spend for a past month.)
    • Set the %/$ and a Value. You can choose to set the trigger's limit to a dollar amount or a percentage, then fill in the value.
    • Under Events, select an optional cloud rule that will run when triggered.
    • Set the Overburn toggle to ON to add a badge and yellow coloring when the trigger's conditions are met.
    • Terminate toggle (deprecated) - Please read the section titled What Are Terminate Actions? before applying this. This toggle only appears in version 2.19.x and lower.
    • Under Notifications, set any users and user groups that should be notified when the enforcement is triggered.
    • Enter an optional Description for the enforcement.
  6. Click Save
